Up until 2017, the dance-folk duo hadn’t left their native Malawi. They spent a decade roaming the streets, perfecting their home-made instruments and vibrant playing style. Since their first performance on an international stage at Sauti Za Busara in Zanzibar 5 years ago, the rollercoaster ride hasn’t stopped. Currently on their fifth European tour, with shows at Roskilde, WOMAD, Fest Des Suds, and over a hundred other performances across Europe and Africa, 2022 set the stage for their first performances in USA. Also this year there is the new album Musakayike out on June 17 and the making of a documentary in process. Intuitive, authentic, and full of ruthless rhythms, Madalitso will make you clap, dance, smile, and rethink everything you thought you knew about African sound and instrumentation. They are authentic to the core. The music inside Madalitso is SO strong, and it comes out effortlessly, full of syncopated rhythms, lush harmonies and a solid back beat. These two lovely cats are smiling their way around the world and bringing dancefloors to life. They were to appear at JTMF two years ago……so great to finally have this dynamic duo grace the stage here.
