Their set here in 2016 was one of the greatest shows ever performed on our stages (and we’ve had over 1,000 artists perform at 40 festivals here). At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theatre, their musical spectrum is intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring «cultural and artistic liberation».

Simply put – their set here at the Joshua Tree Music Festival in 2016 was one of the greatest shows ever performed on our stages (and we’ve had over 1,000 artists perform at 40 festivals here). We are thrilled to have them returning here in October. They’ve performed at Glastonbury, Bonnaroo, and the Kennedy Center for the Arts. Their NPR Tiny Desk & KEXP performances are some of the most watched in those esteemed live music series.  DakhaBrakha is a powerful world music quartet from Kyiv, Ukraine. Reflecting fundamental elements of sound and soul, Ukrainian «ethnic chaos» band DakhaBrakha, creates a world of unexpected new music. DakhaBrakha (their name means «give/take») was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art «DAKH» by the avant-garde theatre director — Vladyslav Troitskyi. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating a bright, unique and unforgettable image of DakhaBrakha. Accompanied by traditional instrumentation from different countries, the quartet’s astonishingly powerful and uncompromising vocal range creates a trans-national sound rooted in Ukrainian culture. At the crossroads of Ukrainian folklore and theatre, their musical spectrum is intimate then riotous, plumbing the depths of contemporary roots and rhythms, inspiring «cultural and artistic liberation».
