Vibrant electro-afro-funk outta London. English-Nigerian lead singer Eno Williams is a force; and the razor sharp octet is focused on that dance floor. Energetic and euphoric. Boundless and borderless. Their latest (4th) album, “Electricity”, is an edgier, more progressive offering, borne out of the pandemic, with Hot Chip producing. The fruits of their labor reveal a gleaming, supercharged, Afrofuturist blinder with heart thumping beats. Hot Chip and Ibibio Sound Machine worked together deeply throughout the process, conjuring an evocative kaleidoscope of delights that include resonances of Jonzun Crew, Grace Jones, William Onyeabor, Tom Tom Club, Kae Tempest, The J.B.’s, Jon Hassell’s “Fourth World,” and Bootsy Collins. Ibibio Sound Machine is Eno Williams (vocals), Alfred Kari Bannerman (guitar), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Jose Joyette (drums), Derrick McIntyre (bass), Tony Hayden (trombone, synth), Scott Baylis (trumpet, synth), and Max Grunhard (saxophone, synth). Consider us thrilled to have ISM making a rare US festival appearance at JTMF.
