Alex Moaveni is a digital artist and creative technologist based in Wonder Valley, specializing in procedural art, interactive experiences, and immersive visual storytelling. Drawing deeply from his technical background in Houdini FX, Python development, and real-time rendering using Touch Designer, Alex’s work merges digital innovation with organic inspiration.
His most personal piece, “Portal,” originated from a desire to create an immersive LED installation inspired by large-scale festival artworks. Initially designed as a dynamic, audio-reactive wall of light, Portal evolved significantly due to Alex’s experiences living in a windowless studio at the Brewery DTLA. Seeking relief from harsh, artificial brightness, he reprogrammed the installation to mimic the soothing gradients and gentle transitions of natural daylight, harmonizing with his circadian rhythm. Eventually, it became a meditative exploration of the sky’s colors during twilight—the ephemeral “magic hour” between sunset and nightfall.
Today, Portal embodies Alex’s approach to art: using technology not merely as spectacle but as a meaningful reflection of human experience, reconnecting us to the subtle beauty and rhythm of the natural world. His latest iteration debuts at Joshua Tree Music Festival, inviting viewers into a tranquil yet deeply engaging space of reflection.
