Sofaz is a melting-pot of cultures; Maloya music from Reunion Island, Creole, Morocco, France & Burkina Faso. All the riches of these cultures seem to be embodied within the energetic grace of a Sofaz mix. Theirs is a new kind of high energy electro-Maloya, where traditional and future afro-funk collide. Global music with a message. Sofaz are Thierry Devje (Reunion Island / India) on breakbeats and bass, Edouard Chaize (France) on Mandingo guitar, Siaka Sanou (Burkina Faso / Ivory Coast), and Jamal Bijdaa (Morocco) on guembri. Gnawa, Berber, and Creole dance and trance that transcends borders. In a live setting, Sofaz is an irresistibly euphoric experience. They were scheduled to perform here in May of 2020, so we are thrilled that they will be making it to JTMF in ‘22!
