(LA) Thumpasaurus serve up a wild punk-funk stew infused with flashes of Zappa, Beefheart, James Chance, Funkadelic, Devo, Talking Heads, Prince, heavy metal, free jazz, musical theater—even a hint of light opera. They absolutely thumped the crowd at JTMF in 2019, returned for a live-stream set in 2020, filmed their “Struttin’” video on the festival grounds, then re-thumped the funk out with us at JTMF in 2022.
Their music has earned spins on tastemaker stations like KCRW (for “Wayne’s World”), BBC Radio 1 (“Space Barn”), and BBC Radio Scotland (“You Are So Pretty,” “Dance Like It’s Your Life,” “Mental Karate”). Their latest release, Thumpaverse, is pure gold—a raucous follow-up to their debut Book of Thump. Think. Dance. Smile. Feel.

Rooted in soul tradition yet never bound by it, the band blends modern R&B, funk, and jazz into a sound that’s both timeless and refreshingly new. Greene’s songs honor love, loss, and the human experience, proving the enduring power of soul music. This is the band to watch.
(San Diego) Back by popular demand, Steve Poltz will make you laugh, cry, sing, blush, dance, and rejoice—sometimes all in the first song. Armed with his guitar, voice, and supernova-charged wit, he’s one of the greatest entertainers roaming the planet today. For 26 years and fourteen solo albums—from One Left Shoe to 2022’s Satellites & Stardust—Steve has proven NPR right: “Poltz is a talented and prolific songwriter.”
A beloved JTMF favorite (2018, 2019, 2024, 2025), he also led the post-lockdown show in 2021 and hosted the inspiring BAHOOTENZIE SongSchool. Known for his work with The Rugburns and co-writing Jewel’s hit “You Were Meant for Me,” Steve continues to collaborate widely and tour relentlessly. His May set will be a journey not to miss.
(Denver) D.J. Williams is an acclaimed guitarist, singer-songwriter, and producer whose illustrious career has seen him traverse the globe, igniting stages and renowned festivals with his band’s fiery performances. Described by Premier Guitar as “… a monster… an inventive, effective, and ear-catching soloist, armed with a warm tone and superior chops,” Williams has unleashed his next creative achievement: new album “Gravity & Grace” on his own label Projekt Music Group and is hitting the road!
Previous endeavors saw Williams handle guitar for San Diego’s legendary tour-de-force, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe. A commanding force, she writes boldly about feminism, love, racism, homophobia, and politics. As a teen, she traveled Brazil alone with her guitar, performing anywhere she could and sharing messages of resistance and love.
Her Sofar Sounds performance of “Cota Não É Esmola” has surpassed 13 million views. Since 2017, she has toured across Brazil and Europe, including a standout showcase at WOMEX 2022 in Lisbon. Her releases include Estúdio Showlivre (2018), Igreja Lesbiteriana: Um Chamado (2019), and Faminta (2022). We saw her solo last year—just mic and guitar—and she absolutely slayed.

ÖLÜM (Turkey/LA) is a Los Angeles–based Turkish psychedelic rock band led by İzmir-born frontman Aykut Ozen. Reviving timeless Turkish folk songs and crafting new originals, they channel the 1962–82 golden age of Anatolian psych with fuzzed-out guitars, analog synths, and rich percussion.
Each track taps into ’70s psych magic—nostalgic yet strikingly fresh—evoking the crate-dug gems that first introduced the world to the era. Their single “Yeşil Güneş (Green Sun)” captures that excess and incense vibe, complete with a gloriously retro, shirtless-on-a-custom-van video. A modern prism of vintage psych and style, ÖLÜM is here for those about to rock.

The documentary Birthright follows their surreal, emotional journey performing in Havana and exploring their Cuban roots; it premiered as the closing night film at the Miami International Film Festival.
(Denver) Named Westword Magazine’s Best Breakout Artist of 2023, N3PTUNE is an explosive queer multi-hyphenate from Denver, CO. Rooted in the gospel, blues, and soul of his Baptist upbringing, he forges a bold, brash, genre-blurring pop sound all his own. His raw, immersive live shows prompted Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss to compare him to “seeing Prince for the first time”—and invite him on tour immediately.
Rising from Denver’s DIY scene to selling out venues and performing on major stages like Red Rocks and Ball Arena, N3PTUNE has supported artists including Cordae, Rina Sawayama, Wyclef Jean, and more. Touring with Sleigh Bells and appearing at festivals from Capitol Hill Block Party to Electric Forest, he’s quickly become a national force.
(Joshua Tree) Native to the Mojave Desert, Joshua Tree’s own Gabriella Evaro creates multi-layered soundscapes and thought-provoking lyricism. Together they loop guitar, bass, vocals, and beats into a mysterious, sultry, and wholly original soundscape.
Their dynamic songwriting blends psychedelia, blues, electronica, hip-hop, and irresistible dance grooves. Their October 2023 JTMF set was electric. A fifth-generation artist, Gabriella has performed at the festival 20+ times since 2008—with her brother Gene, in the Cactus Wine Experience, Lucky Bones, Myshkin, Earth Moon Earth, and her recent solo work. Q.varo is their most evocative collaboration yet.
(Joshua Tree) Born in the mythical land of Hollywood, where the psychedelic fragrance of the California State Poppy lingers in the air, Pearl Charles was raised on American folk music. Though she did for a time immerse herself in the world of American primitivism – The Carter Family, Smithsonian Folkways and Alan Lomax’ archival recordings of the American South – having grown up in Los Angeles, the folk culture she personally encountered was that of her hometown.
A culture that on the surface seems to be communally shared with the world via the vast amount of media exported from Hollywood, but is only truly known by the people who live and breath the smog laced air of the city itself – thick with the salt from the Pacific Ocean and the dust from the Mojave desert.
(Bay Area) This one-of-a-kind artist radiates explosive energy and unbridled passion—so much that it can’t be contained. Her audiences leave glowing for days. Hailing from Mexico City and seasoned by global touring, she and her band are now taking Gold Country by storm with electrifying shows that pull crowds into ecstatic surrender from the first note.
After winning the fiercely competitive High Sierra Music Festival Band Contest, the buzz around her is skyrocketing. Suika T. leads with fully empowered charisma—vocals, ukulele, percussion—and a fierce electro-cumbia groove. If you’re new to cumbia, you’ll feel its primal pull instantly. Blending funk, reggae, world jazz, and hip-hop with effortless flow, their sound rises like a river from the earth itself.

In 2024, they debuted La Misma Fuente on Wonderwheel Recordings to strong acclaim. Their electro-acoustic live/DJ hybrid features multilingual vocals, trumpet, percussion, and more. In a landscape of sameness, Yemanjo delivers refreshing sonic diversity and the presence of a seasoned live performer.
(Bay Area) Robbie Fitzsimmons is a platinum-certified LGBTQ+ artist and creator of Elvin Grunge — a fusion of cinematic rock, soaring vocals, and theatrical storytelling. His work draws deeply from his lived experience with bipolar disorder, revealing the emotional extremes that shape his art. For years, his expansive catalog stayed largely hidden, caught between bursts of electric creativity and periods of profound depression.
Despite co-writing with artists like Lana Del Rey and performing at major festivals, Fitzsimmons approached releasing solo material with caution. In 2022, he stepped fully into the spotlight with “Money in Your Pocket,” marking a bold new chapter in his artistic journey.
(Algeria, Tunisia, France) When continents collide, they make a thunderous sound—and Al-Qasar provide the soundtrack. The band calls it “Arabian fuzz”: a brazenly electric vision rooted in tradition, blending heavy Arabian grooves, global psychedelia, and North African trance.
Formed in Paris’s Barbès neighborhood by producer Thomas Attar Bellier, Al-Qasar unites musicians from France, Lebanon, the USA, Morocco, Algeria, Armenia, and Egypt. Bellier envisioned a project reflecting life in international cities—diverse, radically colorful, and unmistakably contemporary. Their latest release, Who Are We?, is a thrilling, relentless album, drawing on hypnotic trance rhythms, the intricate beauty of Arabic scales, and the raw shock of rock’n’roll. It’s modern folklore: a powerful reflection of our cross-cultural world. After visa issues prevented earlier appearances, we’re beyond thrilled to finally welcome Al-Qasar to light up the stage this May.

With voices that blend like sun and shadow and stories steeped in wanderlust, Desert Hollow invites you to get lost—and maybe find yourself—in their sound.
(Joshua Tree) Emerging from the sun-scorched stillness of Joshua Tree, Palo Xanto is a lyric poet and sound conjurer channeling raw desert magic. His music—stripped down, rhythmic, and pulsing with primal groove—blends blues-soaked guitar, dust-blown beats, and the liminal textures of desert rock and alt-hip-hop.
Each line, crooned or cut with razor clarity, unfolds like stream-of-consciousness ritual, evoking both the vast high desert and the inner landscapes of solitude and soul reclamation. This is music for dreamers, wanderers, truth-seekers, and misfits. Alongside his artistry, Palo curates Homestead Sessions, an intimate community series showcasing top High Desert musicians and poets.

Her recent project Through Not Around — a four-song EP paired with free concerts in underserved rural communities — was funded by the State of California. A longtime JTMF favorite (2004, 2005, 2022, 2023, 2024), she returns this winter for her second Artist Residency. “Music moves, connects, and reassembles us,” she says. Corinne joins Anna Olivia and Parker Ainsworth for the Songwriter Sesh on Friday.

(Joshua Tree) Anna Olivia Eve moved to the high desert of California in the spring of 2016. Originally hailing from the suburbs of NYC, she headed west in search of something greater than her Self. Rolling through the desert on a whim, she came upon a space of comfort and community—a community that encouraged her to share her voice.
